In July this year, Nicole Anderson from the Clyde Fishermen’s Trust travelled to Maine, in the USA, to meet with the Maine Coast Fishermen’s Association (MCFA), the Maine Centre for Coastal Fisheries and visit the Maine Lobster Festival. Nicole was keen to learn more about the projects and techniques Maine fishing communities are using to enhance the sustainability of their fisheries through advocating the needs of community-based fishermen and the environmental restoration of the Gulf of Maine. Nicole hopes that the fishing community in the Clyde and Port Clyde in Maine can ‘learn and grow’ from each other and work together to find solutions to the similar issues they are facing.
Nicole has now returned from Maine with lots of stories and interesting ideas about how to apply what she’s learnt in Maine to the fishing community in the Clyde.
